Influenster Holiday Voxbox 2012

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:02 PM by inspirationsbysd

I recently received the Holiday Voxbox 2012 from influenster, and if you are not familiar with influenster it is a program in which you register to receive a box filled with full products for you to try out and rate. They make their selections based on the qualifications, you can get involved by rating products and posting reviews on their website.

This is what was in the box and a quick review of each item:

1) Goody Quickstyle brush: it should  speed up the hair drying process by 30%, I have been using it for the past three weeks and I have not noticed a difference, I did not feel like it dried my hair or even help in drying it.

2) Quaker Real Medley: I received the berries medley, it was good, I love the convenient packaging but I found the one I received too sweet for my taste, I do however, like the quaker brand.

3) Kiss Nail Dress: I have tried something very similar by Sally Hansen, the only problem I have with this one is the pattern, I am not into animal patterns, and I was not a fan of the one I got.

4) Eboost: this is good, especially if you are traveling and need to boost up your immune system.

5) NYC Lipgloss: I loved the color, the one I received was nude, and pretty.

6) a coupon from sole Society

if you haven’t heard of their program, check it out, it’s actually neat 🙂

New Beauty Test Tube Fall 2012

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:33 PM by inspirationsbysd

I received my second box yesterday, I am really happy with this tube. Wasn’t so thrilled about the Summer edition, but loving the products in this one. First of, if you are not familiar with how the New Beauty Test Tube works, well it is a quarterly subscription you pay $39 and it also comes with their magazine which sells for $10 on it’s own, they send you a tube filled with deluxe samples to full size products that are new and you get to try out. If you like the product, you can purchase the full size from Spalook.com they give you coupons with each test tube for your purchases on their website.

This Fall the tube included:

it cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye: Sample size, pretty small but it is a concealer so I’m guessing you don’t need much of it anyway.

MoroccanOil Intense Hydrating Mask: I have tried MoroccanOil’s argan oil its good, honestly whenever I am in Kuwait I don’t even use hair conditioner, but because I live in a colder climate throughout the year I need all the help I can get! It is a good deluxe size, and can’t wait to try it out!

Yon-Ka Masque No. 1: This came in a full size, and it retails for $58 (so that item alone is much more than you pay for the tube subscription!) I have it on as I write, it smells really nice, reminds me of Spa Time I believe it is the jasmine. The scent isn’t overwhelming though I cannot tell how well it works though, we’ll see.

Kneipp Eucalyptus Herbal Bath & Pure Bliss Bath Salt Red Poppy and Hemp: This sounds interesting! I cannot wait to try it out, it is supposed to be relaxing (i’ll say!) I’m sure I will need that one day.

dr. brandt Dark Circles Away: I have tried this serum before, also in a sample size, it was ok, not a miracle  worker for sure.

philosophy Hope in a Jar: I tried this one, and I know Oprah raves about it, so I got it in a deluxe sample once from Sephora, I have to say I was not so impressed by it! If you want a lotion that quenches your thirsty skin then Clinique’s Moisture Surge works far better than this one.

olay Professional Pro-X Deep Wrinkle Treatment: This also came in a full size, which retails for $44 I’m surprised that Olay costs that much honestly! I do not believe my skin is mature enough for this one, so I may give it to my mom.

Cellceuticals Serious Serum: This was a full size also and costs $65! I have never heard of this brand, and will give it a try.

All in all, most of the products were good and should come in handy. Oh and if you want to know how much this tube really costs with the products they included (I’m only calculating the full size items) it is = $167! Not bad ha?

Shopbop’s Wedding Boutique (an update)

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:11 AM by inspirationsbysd

I previously mentioned in my blog post that shopbop.com has a new “wedding boutique” that was back in March 2011. In that post I mention how I was not so impressed with the selection they had in that boutique but was optimistic that the collection will grow to be better and offer more verity for the brides to be. Well, it seems that their “Wedding boutique” has a lot to offer now! They have added great designers, such as Reem Acra, and Marchesa! They now carry brands with price range that start from affordable to pricy.
Here are my picks:

Marchesa on sale

Temperley London

Marchesa just recently launched their first ever perfume, and it is much talked about because everything Georgina Chapman and Karen Craig touch turns into this elaborate, extravagant piece of art. The bottle is so beautiful, the cap resembles the clasp on all their amazing clutches, and the perfume is a blend of florals (jasmine, orange blossom and rose). I just received my bottle and my thoughts are, yes the bottle is beautiful and would look amazing on a vanity table, however, the perfume was not what I had expected. It smells really nice, but it reminds me of Prada’s Infusion d’Iris, so it is powdery and soft. My only complaint is that, I would have wanted a perfume that is truly unique to Marchesa, but then again I am very picky and I only wear certain perfumes!

Have you tried it? What do you think of it?

Updated Review on Shea Terra Organics

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:52 PM by inspirationsbysd

Ghassool L’Eau De Rose Purifying Paste: this product smells great, and really feels great after using,. It does tend to be a bit drying so if you have naturally dry skin I wouldn’t recommend using it. The only CON is that it is so MESSY! When it is time to wash off, it leaves residue all over the sink or tub, so only use it if you plan on cleaning the bathroom after.

Ghassool L’eau De Fleur D’Oranger Purifying Paste: the same comments above, smells great too!

Rose Hips Black Soap Deep Pore Face Wash and Mask: This is the star product, I absolutely love it! It does make the skin extra smooth and nice, I did not find it harsh on the skin at all, and I have very sensitive skin. Although, my sister just informed me that it was really drying, she also said that she could not stand the smell. I do not have a problem with the smell, I think it smells natural, but I guess that just depends on how sensitive your senses are 😉

Orange Blossom Pure Distillate Water: I use this all the time, it is very refreshing. I cannot say if it has done anything different to my skin, but I love the feel of it after washing up.

Moroccan Rose Water: Same remarks as the one above, they both smell great!

BANANAS & BAOBABS Organic Shea Butter & Fair Trade Sugar Scrub: I did not find this scrub any different than any scrubs I have used, it does it’s job and if you prefer natural products this obviously is better, but if you do not care then you are not missing out.

Rose Water Shea Butter Hand Scrub: I did not use this product, I actually brought this for my mom and I did not ask her if she liked it or not.

Rose Water Shea Butter Hand Crème: Not my favorite hand cream, the texture is very thick and hard to spread.

Summer French Tips

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:26 PM by inspirationsbysd

If you are following me on twitter you probably saw me posting about my manicure. I am loving the colors, especially for the summer, I initially chose the mossy green color, I think it was Essie in “Navigate her”, and then decided to add the gold tips to add a fun twist to my manicure. The end result reminded me of Laduree’s colors hehe the gold tips were also a color from Essie but I do not have the name for it since it was an after thought and the lady went to search for gold nail polish when I asked.

What’s your summer color? 🙂

What’s in My Travel Makeup Bag

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:00 PM by inspirationsbysd

I am traveling tomorrow and wanted to share with you what I carry in my travel makeup bag. It is becoming a bit difficult to carry anything with you on the plane, with all the TSA regulations and all. So I managed to get most of my essentials or favorites in miniature (travel) sizes, and my makeup bag is also translucent so I do not have to carry my items in a plastic bag.

Here is what’s in my bag:

Boscia: Green Tea Blotting Linens (I don’t use these much, but I got them in as a sample it has 25 sheets)

Bobbie Brown lipstick palette:  Brownie, Raspberry, Sandwash Pink, Red, Plum

Laura Mercier: Foundation primer in radiance (sample, but I also have it in full size ..luv it)

Smash Box: Photo Finish Lid Primer (ordinarily I use UD lid primer, but this is ok)

Henri Bendel Contact Lenses case

Benefit: high beam

Benefit: BAD gal Lash (used to be my favorite mascara)

Benefit: Stay Don’t Stray (I got all three benefit items in a small package from sephora)

Anastasia Beverly Hills: Clear Brow Gel (I am in love with this, I got it as a sample but will purchase full size). Every time I use clear brow gel I remember Ellen on the Ellen show, when she puts on clear brow gel and says “wow, I look like a French hooker” 😛

Stella by Stella McCartney: this is one of my favorite perfumes, and I have it in pretty much all sizes (perfume, travel size etc, full size etc)

BareMinerals original foundation: I do not use this brand, but since I got it as a sample, I decided to keep it in my travel bag for “just in case”.

BareMinerals Mini Kabuki Brush: IT IS SO CUTE!!

BareMinerals Primer: have not tried it yet, it came with the sample set

Josie Maran Argan Color Stick: in Petal Pink, I got both full size and mini from Sephora, the full size I got in Rosy, which is the color I prefer for my skin tone. I love it, and a little goes a long way, so I just dab a bit on my cheeks.

Jack Black: Hand Healer, got this as a sample

Many of the items I received as travel size samples, or I have purchased online from Sephora. You can find many of the items at the Sephora checkout line, what is your travel essentials?

note: Some of the items in the pictures I have already used and are no longer in my travel bag, and I do not use ALL products on daily basis, it just happens I have them in travel size so I put them there 🙂

Shea Terra Organics

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:47 PM by inspirationsbysd

On my never-ending quest for the best “healthy” beauty products, I came across some great brands that I continue to repurchase, and others that were just eh. I will list some of the brands that I love and are considered “natural” or free of harsh chemicals at the end of the post, but before I do that I want to talk about, what I believe is my holy grail of natural beauty products! I recently discovered this brand, although Shea Terra Organics have been in the market since 1998 I believe, and apparently Angelina Jolie is a fan too!

What makes this brand better than anything else I have tried? First of, they use natural products found in Africa, and most, as a Middle Eastern woman, I am familiar with and love. Most products contain Shea butter, Moroccan roses, orange blossoms, and all the yummy good stuff that I oh so love! The woman behind the brand, Tammie Umbel, is remarkable herself, she is a mother of 12 kids as well as the founder of this amazing brand! Wow and I thought I had my hands full hehe

Even though I have never tried this brand prior to this order, I knew it would be good and ended up purchasing 9 items at one go! I noticed that amazon.com sells them as well, and I read in one of the reviews that ordering them from amazon.com would be better, because of the slow customer service from the actual website. I did, however, order from their website because of the 30% coupon code I had, as well as free shipping! I decided its worth the risk hehe my order total was $170 but with the coupon it came down to $119 which I thought was great, and I was surprised that the products shipped on the same day I placed the order, and two days later they were outside my doorstep!

The quality of the product is amazing, although I still did not try them enough to give a full review, but the texture of most of the products I purchase is rich and smells luxuriant and heavenly. Here is a list of what I purchased:

Ghassool L’Eau De Rose Purifying Paste: “100% Natural. Purify your skin for an incredibly healthy glow using ancient lava clay from Morocco’s Atlas Mountains.”

Ghassool L’eau De Fleur D’Oranger Purifying Paste: “100% Natural. Purify your skin for an incredibly healthy glow using ancient lava clay from Morocco’s Atlas Mountains.”

Rose Hips Black Soap Deep Pore Face Wash and Mask: “100% Natural. Discover why YouTube and Facebook fans RAVE about this face wash. The world’s most effective, amazing face wash! Based on an ancient African formula, using REAL African Black Soap, this wash works like microdermabrasion to get rid of dead skin, even skin tone, firm skin and fight acne. Look younger in just minutes of use. South African Rose Hips Oil makes calms skin and works wonders on maturing skin.”

Orange Blossom Pure Distillate Water: “100% Natural. Delicate orange blossom water to tone oily to normal and acne prone skin. Excellent addition to face masks.”

Moroccan Rose Water: “100% Natural. Leave your skin silky soft as you tone and hydrate with true rose-water. Add to your favorite masks for added anti-aging benefits.” (note: i got two of these, one for my mom and one for myself I’m sure she’d appreciate it too. We love anything and everything that is floral and this is very gentle you can even use it on your eyes!)

BANANAS & BAOBABS Organic Shea Butter & Fair Trade Sugar Scrub: “Description 99.7% Natural. Say good-bye to dull skin as you buff away dead cells to reveal the younger, fresher looking you. Rare shea nilotica shea butter combines with Fair Trade Malawi cane sugar and skin softening Somalian qasil for a one of a kind treat. Bananas and baobabs, oh my! Naturally fragrant, sweet banana extract combines with skin softening baobab oil.”

Rose Water Shea Butter Hand Scrub:Description 99.7% Natural. Volcanic stone creates super smooth hands. Morocco’s silky rose-water and organic shea butter soften them for hours of protection, leaving hands looking younger than ever.

Rose Water Shea Butter Hand Creme:Description 99.7% Natural. It’s time for hand renewal with time-tested, ancient ingredients. Hydrate hands to make them look younger and silky as rose petals with Moroccan rose-water. Soften and heal hands with 30% organic shea butter.”

I also received three samples in my package, which are:
Moroccan Argan Oil: I have used Argan Oil by Josie Maran and love it
Ghosool Hair and Body: a natural soap bar that works both as shampoo and body wash (correct me if I am wrong, but it sounds similar to the natural soaps found in Kuwait sabon ragee? Hope I spelled that ok lol)
Night Nourishment: this sample is also oil based, I will give all three samples a try.
Here are the other brands that I love:
Caudalie: “Caudalie is the first beauty company to use (and patent) stabilized grape seed polyphenols in skincare and steers clear of parabens, phenoxyethanol, mineral oils, and artificial colorings to protect your skin and the environment. Balancing science and nature with a touch of luxury”
Jurlique: “Jurlique believes that beauty comes from beauty. Simply put, beauty is not processed. It’s not made in a lab. It’s grown, cultivated, and cared for passionately. It’s not artificial and it’s as real as our very own bodies and skin.”
Josie Maran: “A homegrown organic beauty expert”
Burt’s bees: I have also tried their new line, GUD, I prefer Burt’s Bees though. GUD had a strong artificial smell in their products (smelled like perfume!).
I may give a detailed review on the products I have mentioned above, once I really find out what I think of them based on several uses. Let me know if you have tried this brand before? Or what is your favorite beauty product?

New Orleans, LA

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:27 AM by inspirationsbysd

Hello, Spring Break is over, and we are back to school. Even though it was a short break, it was fun nonetheless. My cousin and I went to New Orleans, LA for the weekend and it was the first time for the both of us. If you grew up reading Virginia Andrews (fess up, no shame in it :P) then you’ll understand my fascination with New Orleans. The Landry series took place in New Orleans, a place thriving with culture, history and mystery (ooh I rhyme :P). We were not disappointed at all, I am madly in love with New Orleans and look forward to my next visit and hope the next one will be longer, there is so much to do there. We pretty much managed to do it all though, from museums; psychic readings (just for fun, they just make things up and you go along with them :P); voodoo shops; ghost tours; and just roaming the beautiful streets! I’ll leave you with the pictures 🙂

New Orleans

Bands playing music outside hotel, NOLA

Streets of New Orleans, LA

A band with a mini parade for a bride and groom on a horse carriage

The beautiful St. Louis Cathedral overlooking Jackson Square

Inside the Saint Louis Cathedral ...erm ur not supposed to take pics

Fats Domino's piano after hurricane Katrina (at the Presbytere museum)

One of the locals, thinking he won't survive the hurricane wrote down his name, blood type etc on his jeans so that people can identify him. Fortunately he made it (Presbytere Museum)

The boat that saved lives during the hurricane that hit New Orleans in 2005

The French Quarters, New Orleans

I believe this is the statue of Jesus casting a shadow on St. Louis Cathedral and overlooking Bourbon St.

New Orleans reminded me of Europe so much, especially the strong contrast between religion and worldly pleasures. You have the cathedral which is the center of everything and then right next to it are the bars, and clubs. It doesn’t make sense, but somehow works. Of course we tried the beignets at cafe du monde, as much as I loved the feel of dining alfresco, the beignets were over hyped, too doughy for my likening but I would still hang out at Cafe Du Monde just for their location and great vibe.Over all New Orleans was just as I expected and more! Highly recommend it 🙂
